Fishing Is Not Humane

Vegan Performance Art

Oxford in 2025 was filled with graduation ceremonies, yet on the steps lay the “catch of the day”: sentient bodies beneath a net, staged by We The Free to confront speciesism — the belief that human comfort can excuse the suffering of other creatures. If animals can feel fear and pain, our obligation is clear: to build food and research industries no longer sustained by needless cruelty.

Fishing hides its violence beneath the surface. Fish are crushed in nets, dragged from the sea, left to suffocate or discarded as waste, while oceans are emptied and habitats destroyed. Their suffering is not incidental to human appetite; it is a moral failure we have chosen not to see.
