Ankoko Butoh

Ankoku Butoh, the ‘dance of darkness,’ appears to me not as darkness alone, but as a strange and fragile beauty. In its slow, exposed movements, something hidden rises to the surface — sorrow, memory, vulnerability, spirit. As a photographic artist, I am drawn to that same threshold: the moment when shadow allows the inner self to be seen. Photography, for me, is a way of finding light within darkness. The image above recalls Edvard Munch’s The Scream: not only an image of anguish, but a cathartic cry from the depths of creation.
